Playlist Polish-Do You Believe In Magic?

This beauty here is a glitter holo shade from Playlist Polish. I have to say it was a chore trying to get it, as it was limited edition, and I had to nab it on a restock. I think all of those Amazon Black Friday Lightning Deals paid off in this case, as I was very much in love with this shade. The application and bottle/brush themselves are great, and this color makes for a great everyday wear, and I think most guys should be able to pull this one off even in work settings as it doesn't pop out. If you have a chance to snag this one, do so.

OPI-Black Onyx

For today, it's obligatory Goth Time, aka, OPI's Black Onyx. I actually used this as part of a layering idea, but I won't be able to show you that trick for a while, lol. Anyhow, great bottle and application from OPI as always, although I could tell not many folks actually shop for black nail polish nowanddays, as this was hell for me to get open.

Cadillacquer-Life's Too Short

Alright, today we have Cadillacquer's Life's Too Short, which is a creamy blue color with lots of blue glitter flakes to boot. Application was great, looked awesome. Should probably warn my fellow men who are into polish though, with these glitter polishes, you need to be careful about removal as if your not too careful, the glitter particles will not be easily removed. Make sure you dose your removal felt or cotton balls with remover/acetone, then press really good onto the nail, then after a few seconds, pull the pad/ball off away from the cuticle, and that should do the trick. You will probably have a few bits left over, but that's easy cleanup.

Ludurana-Admiravel

The following here is Ludurana's Admiravel, which I picked up recently. It's a brand from Brazil, and this particular color is part of their duochrome line, and since I'm a sucker for duochromes, well, here ya go. Application was nice and the bottle didn't hamper anything at all, so I was pretty happy with how things turned out. Oh, the first pic here is the color under one form of light....

And there it is under flash. Pretty neat, huh?

Enjoy as always and Happy Polishing Peeps!

FNUG-Style Icon

Hey ladies and gents, sorry I've been away for a while, I've been having to deal with silly stuffs at work and home, so I've gotten seriously behind on my swatching, so over the next few days I'll have some stuff every day to even that out. First off is FNUG's Style Icon, which is a silvery color that's more of a light bronze.

Not gonna lie, was not a fan of the bottle and brush design. It's one thing to do up a small bottle, but when your brush is kinda tiny, it just becomes a pain in the posterior for application, same reasoning why I don't do Essie polishes that often. If you pick this up, just exercise caution as due to the bottle/brush, this can apply VERY streaky. That being said, this was awesome as a shade and one I'll probably go to when I want to wear something that will shine.

Have fun and Keep Polishing Peeps!

OPI-You're such a Budapest

Hey look everyone, it's my thumb! Yeah, I haven't been posting pics with my thumb in there mainly because of the giant dent in my nail, which is also on my index finger. The index isn't bad, by my thumb is, and I can't run off and get it filled in with acrylic or gel due to my day job, so I don't paint it that often when swatching, today I did mainly because I wanted to show how well the OPI formula worked on smoothing out the deep ridges there.

Now I do have to say, I love lilac shades, probably to where before it's all said and done I'll probably end up owning 20-30 different versions of this same shade, but I can't help it, lol. This is a nice lilac made by OPI, application was smooth as always and didn't have many streaking issues except on the ridged-up nails. This is 2 coats. Have fun and Happy Polishing!

CND-Fedora (Vinylux)

This particular shade I've been meaning to get my hands on for a while now, I'm a HUGE sucker for dark brown creme shades, so Fedora has been on my wantlist for years, but I've always missed out on the chance to get it, until now with the color being released on the Vinylux line. For those who don't know, Vinylux is a super-special polish line CND has been promoting, mainly with the concept that you don't need a base coat, and once you wear the topcoat you shouldn't have to worry about chipping and whatnot as the top coat gets stronger in natural sunlight. Now for this I didn't mess with the topcoat as I was swatching and it is from what I understand VERY hard to remove the polish once the topcoat is on, but I do have it and I'll probably test that out another time.

I can say though that CND is worth the hype, this is at two coats and to be honest, I probably could have gotten away with one. Anyhow, have fun and Happy Polishing!

Orly-Luxe

Alrighty, today I figured I would share a swatch from the Orly side of things, they can usually be found in any Sally Beauty Supply, and are another favorite brand of mine, mainly for the fact that they make one of the best rubberized grips around which is such help for me. Anyhow, here is Luxe:

This is a gold shade base that has a bit of glitter in it as well, so you get a crazy effect from close up. I picked this up originally so I would have a gold color to partner up with my Here Today Aragorn Tomorrow color so I could do some triforce nail art, but it's still pretty nice to wear all by itself. This is at 2 coats.

If you're hunkering for a gold nail color but don't have time to make it out to Ulta or any other high end store, give Orly a try as there are tons of Sally Beauty Supply stores across each city, big or small. Have fun and happy polishing!

Random OPI Swatches

Yep, it's been a few days, but stuff happens in work and play, so I figured I would share some OPI polishes today.

First one is Here Today, Aragorn Tomorrow, a nice little dark green creme. Application was pretty solid, this is at 2 coats.
Next up is Russian Navy, probably my favorite OPI shade of all time. As you can see in the screenshot with flash, it's purple at the core, although in normal light it tends to exhibit blue/green tendencies, this is also at 2 coats.
Finally for now, I have Peace and Love and OPI, which is a hot shade to begin with. It's a duochrome, with a green tone during bright light......
and more of a purple tone in natural light. I have to say, this color is pretty awesome as well and is part of my regular polish rotation along with Russian Navy. If you haven't had a chance to pick this one up, do so. This is at 2 coats.

I'm not gonna lie, I do prefer OPI for the most part over Essie simply because I always get better results with the consistency of the brush and polish, and I don't have to fight over making an even coat, but that's me. As always, have fun and happy polishing!

Random Essie Swatches

Here are some random Essie polishes I had picked up. Now me and Essie normally don't get along as I've never been a fan of the formula and I think the polishes most of the time are just too thin for my personal liking, but Peach swears up and down by them, so I figured I would jump in and see if I could find some shades I would like.....

The first one you see here is Pepperoni. Now I am obviously not the greatest fan of reds, but I did pick this one up for Pokeball nail art in the near future, plus it actually flowed out from the brush really well. This was about 2 coats.
The second one is my personal favorite out of the bunch, Sand Tropez. I love muted grey-like shades and this one very much fit the bill, plus is wasn't too shabby on application.
The third one you see here is East Hampton Cottage, which is sheer, this was 3 coats, but it's pretty nice. If I wanted a polish that simply gave me a nice white tone, I would go for this one.
The last one you see here is Mayonnaise. I bought this one thinking it was a pure solid white, but another sheer. It's not bad, but it's not great either, especially compared to East Hampton Cottage, plus I had some pretty bad issues with application as you can see by how streaky my nails are.

Overall, I'll invest more into Essie here and there, depending on what they come up with season-wise. Plus I'm sure I can find some more shades that my gal pals will love.

I GUESS I SHOULD PROBABLY DO SOME EXPLAINING.

So, it all began when I was a young pup, and I had a set of Crayon Markers. One day while working in my coloring books, I thought, man, I should color my nails with this stuff! So I did, and then my mum came home and was not too happy, so off my hands were washed, but it was an idea, a thought that stuck in.
When I was around 5-6 years old, I lived with my Dad and our Step Family, including my sister, who liked to treat me like a little sister. The moment that she saw me rubbing the surface of her nails wanting that for myself, she started to paint my nails on a semi-regular basis. I wore red apparently a lot, looking at some of my pictures as a kid. When I got to 1st grade and such, I faded out of nail polish mainly because I was busy doing nerdy boy stuff, but still, the thought still remained.
I was reacquainted with painting my nails when I was in 5th grade, one of my brothers had left a bottle of clear nail polish in our communal room as he was going for the well manicured thug look at the time. I used it for practice, until I happened to be sick one day, and wandering into my Dad and Step-mom’s Room, I saw a bottle of some Wet-N-Wild lacquer. It was a nude shade that in hindsight I would probably not be caught dead wearing today, but at the time it was pretty magical, that I was able to give my nails color like that, and from then on I decided that I would do my damnest to wear nail polish as much as I wanted.
Life does have a funny way of getting in the way on that, I was scolded many a times by my Step-mom for even doing such a thing as she was really strict on gender roles, then for a time I moved in with my Mom for a bit in which I would run over to my cousins house all the time to borrow their nail polish only to make sure I had it off by the time I was home. As I was in my teens, I knew I was 100% guy, that I wanted a giant beard and to be a rugged and nerdy as possible, but I also knew I wanted to be able to wear nail polish. I figured when I crossed over into adult hood I could finally get what I wanted, but again, life does throw some curve balls.
I did wear polish as a main feature of how I dressed when I worked as a server, but when I left that job to become a cook in Pizza, I learned it was a big no no due to sanitary reasons. I accepted that and resolved to simply wear polish after hours, and while I ran out of places to live and ran out of a job, me having quality time panting my nails was one of the few things that kept me going, kinda of like how a lot of other guys use their cars or ladies use their wardrobe. A few years back, I got a wakeup call. My Dad had become ill, and I was to become his caretaker. This meant moving to Memphis, where my love for nail polish ended up contrasting with my job and co-workers.
I once again worked in Foodservice, but for once I decided on many variables to say screw it and wear polish at many functions and shifts, which needless to say earned me a lot of crap due to their need to stick to gender norms. I was rejected so badly I ended up not wearing polish for a long time, the sad part being that I could’ve had a couple of really great gal pals to help me out but me being too afraid to reach out for fear of rejection. I ended up taking in a roommate who was also very narrow minded, so I decided to throw away all of my nail polishes, and try to live according to what everyone else wanted of me.
A little bit over 2&1/2 years ago I left Memphis and came back here. At first I stayed in the same mindset I had back in Memphis of not talking to anyone about nails or painting my own, but during recent times I got the itch again, mainly spurred on by a lovely lady who goes by the name of Peach. We met as friends on OKCupid, then IRL at a Con and exchanged FBs. When I finally broke down and got the courage to talk with her about nail polish, I was really relieved that she actually thought it was cool that I was into nails and she’s been really supportive ever since. From there I talked to another one of my gal pals and things have been looking up ever since. With that in mind, I decided to learn how to do nails professionally for many of my Cosplay Friends, and also because it’s something I really enjoy and it allows me to express myself in a manner that words cannot convey. This blog is also an extension of that. I’m still technically hidden out of respect for my roommate and my Dad, but I feel that I now have a lot of support and an outlet to share what colors and trends I’m most passionate about. Hopefully you all will come along for the ride. Also, to paraphrase Nikki Sixx, just because I wear nail polish does not mean I can’t kick your @$$.

Just a quick hello for now.....

I have this basic message setup for the time being. Later tonight I'll have my previous posts and swatches re-uploaded here while I get everything else setup.
